Forget the bumpy roads as you head out to rural Vacherie, Louisiana, by helicopter to step foot back into time at Laura Plantation.
Laura Plantation was founded in 1805 along the Mississippi River as a sugarcane plantation, during the time when French and Creole were the predominate forces of language and culture in this part of Louisiana.
After landing at Laura Plantation, you will join a guided tour of the Maison Principale, the grounds, gardens and original 1840s slave cabins. You will be immersed in the personal and intimate stories of 4 generations of a Louisiana Creole family, both free and enslaved.
After the tour you will fly back to New Orleans and get an aerial perspective of the sugarcane fields that still exist in southern Louisiana along the Mississippi River as well as the Louisiana swamps that surround them.
